Girls is about people like her and yes, that means that Girls is about white women in their early 20s. In the same way that a rape victim is blamed for her assault if she was showing cleavage and women are told to expect cat-calls if they wear short skirts — female nudity is inextricably linked to sex. And to men like Howard Stern, I expect relating to a woman might be somewhat threatening to their sense of self. The only non-white, frequently recurring character in HIMYM is Ranjit, an Indian taxi driver who turns up throughout the season to ferry around the white main ensemble. For a woman to be on TV she needs to be likeable and she needs to be attractive. They are well rounded, believable characters.
It was one of the first times I can recall being sent into a tailspin of anxiety for weeks, because it meant I had to wear a bathing suit in front of my classmates. Mikey made me do it Dunham has long been outspoken about her willingness to appear nude on social media and on her show, "Girls," which recently wrapped after six seasons on HBO. Though Dunham has posted similar photos online before, her latest one feels particularly defiant in the face of people who have criticized her body. I spent so many years loving my body but thinking it wasn't lovable by others- its sole purpose was to be fodder for jokes.
Young people are mostly self-involved. Fallout from LiamPayne's split with CherylCole! The problem critics have is not the fact that Girls contains nudity. None of this criticism has stopped Girls from being a success. I see my thighs that touch when I stand, I see the round yet flat shape of my ass that moves when I do, I see my own nonskeletal arms. Girls is based on and inspired by her own experiences. Why is she being solely blamed for this lack of multicultural representation on television and why do people seem to think that her story is not worth telling?
